Keamo’s new single “Falling” is a bold ode to heartbreak

Valentine’s Day 2024 has come and gone, but Joburg-based songstress Keamo chose to defy traditional themes with her R&B ballad “Falling”. While some might view it as anti-Valentine’s Day due to it addressing heartbreak, the song delves into the complexities of a short-lived romance, offering a valid perspective on the less celebrated side of love.

On the track, Keamo explores the process of becoming smitten and the struggle that follows rejection with great detail. The most impressive thing about how this narrative is carried on the song is its honesty. She includes major shortfalls such as being jaded and being left with a low self-esteem of the track.

The tune carries the right aspects of contemporary R&B, incorporating electronic music and hip-hop with the quintessential smooth delivery of a vocal performance. The song epitomises some of the movement in the local R&B scene.

The accompanying music video, shot beautifully in a single space, uses great cinematography to vividly convey the narrative. Contrasting images of the songstress and her love interest against the backdrop of rejection and loneliness enhance the visual impact. The video concludes with a poignant quote, ensuring the song’s message lingers with the audience.

Keamo’s “Falling” serves as a reminder that the commemoration of love can encompass a myriad of emotions, including grief brought on by lost love. The thoughtful integration of visuals depicting rejection and hurt, along with the sincere lyrical reflection make for something commendable.
