Keanan Eksteen’s new single “UNDERCOVER” is a retro, indie-rock anthem

Keanan Eksteen and his dynamic rock four-piece is a band on the rise, back with a new single “UNDERCOVER”.

Looking to create a song that offered a touch of nostalgia while remaining modern, Eksteen drew from the likes of Fleetwood Mac and Talking Heads, pushing an old-school sound with touches of an indie-rock style.

“I was looking for something new and upbeat,” Eksteen says of the project. “I wanted a sound I’ve always envisioned but never pursued before. This song has layers and elements we’ve never explored until now.”

Retro synths open to a summery riff, ushering in Eksteen’s debonair vocals. It’s a feel good anthem, soaring with Sam Fender-esque melodies which simultaneously sound like they might be in a Stranger Things episode.

Keanan worked closely with longtime producer Jeremy Farber at For Tomorrow Studios to bring his vision to life. “The song all started with the bass,” he says. “I then came across this groovy little riff. And a groovy riff needs a good drum beat.” Keanan says.

“But the real magic came with the shooting star melodies we layered on top. It brought the song to life and made it stand out from our previous work,” he continues.

Ahead of his third European tour, “UNDERCOVER” is a testament to Keanan’s evolution as an artist. Looking to the future, Eksteen admits, “there’s always something cooking in the studio. This track has opened up new avenues and broadened our horizons. If the world likes it, they’ll love what’s coming next.”
