Milan Rendall and Thando Skwatsha deliver clean-cut R&B elegance in their latest video “Feel So Good”

These guys should just coin a catchy moniker, call themselves an official duo and be done with it. Producer Milan Rendall and singer-songwriter Thando Skwatsha met at UCT two years ago and have been making bangers ever since, really.

They’ve got a collaborative EP coming out next month but, for now, their second visual release is enough to sate your appetite for their minimal, elegant sound. When I say elegant I mean it’s the sort of R&B which hardly sounds like R&B at all, but rather a stripped and lightly textured electro-jazz creation. Skwatsha lends some lulling vocals and the result is a soulful ode to separation.

The video is as clean-cut and contemporary as the sound itself. Sun-soaked Capetonian rooftops and towering Devil’s Peak juxtapose against stark office cubicles as Rendall and Skwatsha assume the roles of lonely office worker and the voice in his head, respectively.

Minimalism takes on another delightful meaning when it comes to the intricacies here. A cruising pace is assumed as electro production means a scattering of textures which stipple the sparse soundscape. Light on its feet is an understatement and yet there’s more than enough body to make it float – and even sparkle.
