Meet Dubblé Amount (pronounced doe-blé) – an electro-rock project headed by Wouter Maré. It started well over 10 years ago, as Maré was introduced to the magic of synthesizers, and has since been on a pretty consistent trajectory, bringing us to the release of his latest single, “The Rush”.
The track opens on a ’90s riff before jumping into vocals that can easily be likened to Milky Chance’s well-loved production tendencies. Only difference here is that you can pretty much minus the production entirely. If a soupy sound is what Dubblé was after, he’s achieved it, but there’s no denying that the individual melody lines could do with greater clarity. On the upside, what the track lacks in brightness, it makes up for in intricate rhythmic work, especially in the song’s final moments.
The single is also accompanied by a pretty trippy music video, offering overblown, high contrast visuals interspersed with double-exposed street scenes and Maré’s own performance. Everything appears dark and murky, which matches the track’s sound pretty perfectly, but I can’t help shake the feeling that there’s more to be done here. Best of all, it’s one simple tweak away – Dubblé Amount simply needs to open up his sound if he wants to give listeners a more exciting experience.
