His latest EP is called Bring Me a Musician and it’s safe to say that Conbad – the moniker of Pretoria-based musician and actor Conrad Rudolph – has done just that.
Positioning himself as a one-stop-shop when it comes to hit-making, Conbad took it upon himself to play all the instruments himself for this EP (over and above, you know, the singing and writing, etc.).
Alt rock-leaning with a proclivity towards the anthemic, this seven track EP sounds a lot like radio bait (in the best way possible). In the pursuit of creating a sound that’s completely his own (in a literal sense), Rudolph has given us the kind of songs that will elevate our daily commutes and enthral us all on stage – and, with Howie Combrink the producer behind them, it all makes sense.
When not delving into the world of one man music making, Rudolph is the frontman of indie band The Capitals – and that frontman energy shines through in this solo venture, which sees him inject a dynamic energy into every word.
From the unashamedly anthemic “Ever Young”, with its soaring guitar-led melodies and equally-as-gripping vocals to the rollickingly up-tempo “Circus”, you’ll find yourself engaged and ready for the next one.
