Aidan Fraser debuts with an impressively slick folk-pop anthem titled “Healing”

We’ve been keeping an eye on Aidan Fraser for a little while now – and the deft, skilful quality of his debut single and video, “Healing” only asserts that he’s one to watch. Indie pop is his game, flecked in the dexterous quick-fingered acoustic folk undertones which smack of Matthew Mole’s early days – while his vibrant songwriting skills find him tackling delicate subjects with uplifting vigour.

“Healing” does just that – honing in on the grief of losing friends, and suffering emotional hits, while getting real about the long healing process which ensues. Even-tempered acoustics rub shoulders with varied synth textures, while the feathery beat which lays the foundation for the track morphs into its thumping counterpart half way through.

“The monsters are loud in my head/ and the demons sing to me in bed/ I think it’s time I don’t give up/ ’cause what’s in front of me is so damn gorgeous,” he sings with ringing honesty. It’s about taking the time for yourself to deal with the inky blackness of these emotions, but it’s also, equally, about pulling yourself out of it.

The video, directed by Kelvin Alston, flaunts a dextrously DIY quality – think saturated frames, artificial flowers, tight close ups moving in and out of focus – which somehow comes across as delightfully artsy – and simultaneously paints what feels like a truly authentic picture of the up and comer. We’ll be watching this space closely.
