Bouwer Bosch’s traditional Afrikaans rock gets a surprise dose of hip hop in his latest single and video, “Skuiling”

Ahead of his imminent new album, Briewe Uit Die Argiewe, which is due to drop later this month, Bouwer Bosch pens a love letter to his faith in his new track, “Skuiling”.

Keeping things varied this time around, Bosch brings some light hip-hop into the mix to keep things interesting. While, for the most part “Skuiling” navigates a familiar light Afrikaans rock tangent, the verses favour a spoken word (see rap) rhythm which lends some refreshing dexterity to the whole thing.

The track speaks to finding shelter within one’s faith in God – bringing emotive honesty to the table – and the accompanying video, filmed in a wooden warmth of an old church in Richmond in the Northern Cape, keeps that sentiment close. Bosch cuts a familiar figure in the pew, the afternoon sun pouring through the stained glass windows as the intensity escalates with tempered energy.

It’s a refreshing and vibrant twist on a well-trodden genre, as Bosch brings something intrinsically new to the fore once again.
