What’s better than a giveaway on a Monday? A giveaway on a Friday, duh.
Starting this Sunday, every second Sunday of the month, The Venue Melrose Arch will host an unplugged performance by a renowned local artist in collaboration with 94.7 Highveld Stereo and Real Concerts.
Who better to kick things off than… Jack Parow? As strange as this may seem, Jack’s amassed a group of super talented individuals that now form his live band and they’ve been tearing stages up all over the country as of late.
I caught up with one of SA’s busiest musos to find out how and what he’s been doing.
Now we all know you’re a Cape Town guy, but how much love do you have for those crazy ous in Guateng?
I love Gauteng, the support for local music up there is amazing, people are always amped and always come out to show there love no matter where I’m playing, so ja, I have blerrie bags of love for the kief oukes in Gauteng.
You’re now backed by a full live band – who does your band consist of and where did you find them?
I have a DJ, a drummer, a bassist and a guitarist. My DJ, DJ Naaldekoker has been with me for ages and I know him from back in the day when he was part of another rap crew called Piet Potent. My drummer, Jade, I found through my old manager and she is AMAZING. My bassist Merwe is one of my oldest friends as well as my designer and Louwtjie, my guitarist I found through Johnny from Fokof, he is NEXT FOKKEN LEVEL.
You can play huge stages and then you can change it up and play something more laid back like this 947Unplugged gig, do you find it easy to switch between the two?
Ag, ja, I mean, i grew up rapping on stages the size of a cardboard box, so I’m used to all the different shows now, I love the big stages, but I love the smaller, more intimate shows as well, I basically just smaak making music no matter where or what it is.
How the hell do you manage such a busy workload and touring with having a family now?
I’ve always been a big believer in work hard and play hard, so when I’m at home I’m at home and when I’m touring I tour hard, but ja, it is quite difficult, but such is life and I’m enjoying it and just trying to divide my time well, luckily I mostly only tour on weekends and now and then I will have a hard two or three week tour, so I still get to spend a lot of time home
Jack Parow seems to be everywhere nowadays, I even use your braaisous. What’s the next big thing?
I just brought out my signature long caps which are available at thegreekmerchant.com along with all my merch and albums and then I’m working on my album for the end of the year, its gonna be kak lekker, it’s a double album, with one side being acoustic and the other electric, really amped to get that out and fokken excited to be in studio again, I love working on new music so ja, kyk uit!!
You heard the man – KYK UIT.
Now I have 2 double tickets to giveaway to 2 lucky people to see Jack Parow do his acoustic thing and if you’d like to win them all you have to do is comment on this post and tell me why I should give these tickets to you. Easy.
Winners will be contacted via email tomorrow morning.
