Against a backdrop of a liquid guitar line, and gossamer-fine backing vocals, Shanya spools out a nostalgia-soaked reflection on the hardships of and unexpected support systems in long distance relationships.
“Here For You” paints a candid picture of Shanya’s own relationship, and just received an accompanying visual – after a couple of setbacks, aka a string of guys dropping out of the lead role last minute, Shanya got Zandré van Wyk on board as the doting boyfriend – and a sweetly sentimental video unfolds.
It’s a little kitsch but that’s ok. As Shanya waxes lyrical on her ongoing support and promises to always (yes) “be here for you”, SEVVEN’s visual tracks juxtaposing shots of an emotional Shanya with flashbacks to romantic picnics in the park – you know the sort.
A snare-kick beat slides into play halfway through to lend a little momentum to the crooning ballad – and while Shanya might err on the basis of originality, her sweeping vocals shine, and her message delivered is unequivocally heartfelt.
