Off the back of their debut EP, Love and Other Accidents, which dropped just a few weeks ago, indie-pop newcomers SunMan gives “Left Here For Dead” a visual treatment. And if the EP itself didn’t pack the punch you needed – unlikely – well this video certainly will.
Directed and shot by our very own Alessandro Gueli, it’s a gorgeously rendered visual counterpart for a track brimming in complexities. Beneath the breezy indie-pop exterior runs an indisputable vein of melancholy, turning what feels like your trademark love song on the surface into far more.
“I’m afraid of the future,” comes frontman Luca Paterson-Jones’ pitching falsetto opening – and really the track is hinged on that sentiment, honing in on a bubbling undercurrent of what-if’s that permeate a relationship flecked in insecurities.
The video takes a similar approach, gorgeously simple frames following a couple from nostalgic late night chats, into rooibos-tinted mountain dams, and across sweeping dunes. Evening city street gallivants are half-blurred and hazy, testimony to the night. There’s no pomp or circumstance, rather bare-boned simplicity awash in heart-plucking sentimentalities, beautifully visually delivered.
And SunMan continues to shine.
