Honeymoan was formed back in 2018 and now, fresh off playing several shows in the UK, members Allison, Josh and Skye are back in SA and set to share the stage with PHFAT, Internet Girl at Rare Cassette this weekend.
The trio played Rocking The Daisies this past weekend (and apparently got rather sunburnt) and will be joined by musicians Mikhaela Faye, Dean Berger and Greg Abrahams this Friday.
TATC journalist, Nathan Levinrad caught up with the genre-bending trio to discuss their stint overseas as well as how much they love Kauai.
NL: What’s it like being a band whose members live on two separate continents?
HM: Bad–expensive, problematic. Though we’re trying to fix that. When we play shows in the UK it’s really nice to only pay for one plane ticket.
NL: You’ve recently been on tour overseas. What was your favourite city, show, and pass time between gigs?
HM: Our favourite show was London, it was full of friends and fans! But we love stopping on the road, snacking and hanging out with famous Minecraft streamers–Asbo Bbq.
NL: Do you have any pre-gig rituals or tour traditions?
HM: We huddle up, and have a wholesome little chat.
NL: You recently played Rocking the Daisies? How was your set and how was the energy playing at the first Daisies in three years?
HM: We played very early and it was quite hot on stage. Alison and Skye had to buy caps to avoid sunburn.
NL: Which festivals are on Honeymoan’s bucket list?
HM: Honestly any of the Ultra Music Festivals.
NL: You’ve changed the way you’ve approached live shows. What’s the thinking behind this?
HM: We learned that it’s more fun to play music live than rely on backing tracks. Even if it requires having more friends.
NL: Josh, you’re a producer–what’s it like working with other bands and do these experiences ever bleed over into Honeymoan?
HM: It’s a completely different experience. With Honeymoan I can go a bit more wild, with other artists I have to be more considerate.
NL: Have you got any albums on the way? When can we expect to hear it?
HM: There is an album on the way! We’re finishing it up as we speak. You can expect a lot of fun, exciting and emotionally manipulative music. New fresh sounds with a familiar Honeymoan vibe. Expect a rehash of all our songs with the most streams on Spotify.
NL: Alison, rumour has it that you started a successful Instagram page. How did that come about?
HM: None. Of. Your. Business.
NL: What’s your favourite sandwich?
HM: We don’t eat sandwiches but we love wraps –specifically from Kauai. Kauai if you’re reading this we love you –please sponsor us.
