Writer’s Picks #008: What we’re listening to this month

Is it just me or do these playlists keep getting better and better every month?

October has been host to some MAJOR releases, and this month’s playlist is a snippet of all the good music you absolutely cannot miss out on.

First of all, PHFAT is back?! He makes his return with “get out of my head” – a grungy low-fi offering that has eerie traces of Kurt Cobain, Radiohead and The Pixies.

Hugo Pooe’s newest EP Distopia is a cold, hard reality check, and a grating combination of hip-hop and punk rock, while Nirvana Nokwe’s debut EP Nirvous Love is equally stunning, its simple vocalism paired with sparse electronics and spoken-word poetry.

Apple Music’s Up Next Artist of the month, aboynamedblu, also makes an appearance, with “Automatic License” – a euphoric indie offering textured by quivering vocals and a rolling bass line.

Other new releases include Beatenberg’s fun-loving “Symposium”; emerger’s retro, synth-heavy “tangerine sky”, Kloudink’s quirky ’90s throwback “No Time For Sleeping” and Yung Beathoven’s “HEARTBREAK HOTEL” (feat. ZUBIN).

On an international front, we obvs had to include a track from Miss Tay Swift’s Midnights, as well as from Arctic Monkeys’ The Car.

And to end things off, Tanaka’s ethereal, space-age single “Starlight”, before Bouwer Bosch’s solemn love letter to faith, “Skuiling”, brings us to a tempered and introspective close.

Ok enough reading now go ENJOY OUR NEW PLAYLIST BYE.
