Milan Rendall and Thando Skwatsha release Love Is: an eclectic collection of raw-hearted melodies and breezy electro-touches

Milan Rendall and Thando Skwatsha, the duo that don’t call themselves a duo, have been treating us to snippets of something marvellously soulful over the last few months, and it’s finally here in full form. This is Love Is.

Having forged a partnership, and a friendship, over the last two years out of their shared love for 2000s R&B and African Jazz, Rendall and Skwatsha’s full-length collaborative offering is an eclectic collection of raw-hearted melodies and breezy electro-touches.

Opener “Wonder”, which was sent to Marvel for the upcoming Black Panther 2 OST, sets a powerfully cinematic sound to the backdrop of choral vocals, while the more pop-hearted “Feel So Good”, which we got to hear over a month ago already, is still just as inviting. Carrying on, “With You” comes as the perfect concoction of uplifting production and contemporary writing, while “Nothing Left To Say” features a hearty tune by one of our faves, Sishii

But the sweet-tasting, cherry-glazed icing on this cake has got to be “The Journey”, enlisting the production talent of Bubele Booi, acclaimed for his work on Beyonce’s latest album The Gift. It hints at the future, as Rendall and Skwatsha plan to keep on giving as much as they get. It’s all about generosity, and looking at what’s ahead with gratitude, but I’m looking too, and I see one more thing – pure talent. It’s what these two are made for.
